As more new moms accept the calling of being stay at home moms, the road soon proves very daunting. When I first transitioned from full time employment to raise my kids at home, chaos is not enough to explain the woes that awaited. Indeed, many were the days that I was on the verge of giving up. But, when you have a crying toddler and a mess to clean up, you have to put on a straight face and make it work. Mothers never hesitate to go the extra mile and if this describes you, there is light at the end of the dark tunnel. I found that living from crisis to crisis will not work. Instead, I looked for ways to make my tasks much easier. After many trials and errors, I found a ‘formula’. The tips below will not only help stay at home moms survive, it will help you thrive.
– Being a stay at home mom does not mean staying in the house all day
As a stay at home mom, your headquarters are in the house. To this end, all your tasks will revolve around the home. However, you do not have to become a prisoner in your own home. This is more so for those who have multiples or kids of close ages. If you do not have an extra pair of hands to help you, you still need to get out of the house. Getting out of the house to relax in your backyard or just the outdoors counts. Your children will also be grateful as well. Being locked up in the house all day can drive you crazy. You need to breath some fresh air, see new faces and just talk to somebody. These seemingly little things make all the difference. Therefore, baby-strollers and car carts are excellent to get you in the outdoors.
– Always plan your activities the night before
As a stay at home mom, you are busy. You cook, clean, feed, change, dress, cuddle, rock, discipline; the list goes on. With all the above tasks, creating a list the night before will make your work easier. When I started, I created a mental to-do list for the next day. However, I realized that jotting it down made it even better because of reference. This way, you can create an order of duties that will really work for you. Therefore, take a few minutes before going to bed and list all the things you want to accomplish the next day.
– The house does not always have to be spotless
As you may already know, I’m not a very big fan of cooking and cleaning. Some moms are gifted housekeepers; God bless them. With young kids running around, the house is certainly going to be messier than ever. You should therefore learn to give yourself a break. Even after cleaning one mess, you can be sure that another is going to be made before the end of the day. As you clean your home, do not obsess with attaining the ultimate sparkle; especially if you do not have a housekeeper. Give yourself a break and clean to your convenience as you move along. Whenever possible, take time for yourself and get your hair done or get a massage; you will feel much better.
